Tea Picker with a Handful of Leaves- Labookellie
Tea pickers use a bamboo stick to mark the area in a row where they start & stop picking leaves. Generally two leaves & a bud which has the flavor & aroma are skilfully plucked. Sri Lanka is among the few countries where each tea leaf is picked by hand rather than by machine because if machinery is used, then a considerable amount of coarse leaves & twigs could be mixed in which adds bulk, but not flavor to the tea. An experienced picker can pick 15- 20 kilograms (33- 44 pounds) daily that is quickly transported to the nearby tea factory for processing.
