Tea culture is very strong in Sri Lanka as it is the world's 4th largest tea producer. The British imported the first tea plant in 1824 & tea is grown mainly in the central highlands. The most popular Sri Lankan tea is Ceylon black tea. There are also Ceylon Green & White teas produced at various plantations along with many specialty & flavored teas. Mackwoods is Sri Lanka's 2nd oldest company having originally started as a shipping company in 1837.
